Job Description

WorkSafeBC is seeking an experienced and strategic leader to serve as the Chief Administration Officer. Reporting to the President and Chief Executive Officer, this role is a key member of the Enterprise Leadership Team (ELT) and is responsible for leading the Legal, Policy, Review and Audit teams in alignment with the organization's corporate vision and strategic direction. This Division plays a critical role in providing legal, policy and administrative expertise and ensuring compliance with the Workers' Compensation Act and other statutes. This is achieved through internal and external stakeholders' engagement to ensure the effective implementation of business plans and corporate strategies that drive WorkSafeBC's mission forward.

As a strategic advisor, the Chief Administration Officer leads a diverse team of legal, policy, and administrative professionals. This individual will be instrumental in shaping the administrative and compliance landscape of WorkSafeBC, fostering collaboration, and driving innovative solutions that enhance service delivery and organizational effectiveness. Additionally, as a champion of WorkSafeBC's people initiatives-including equity, diversity, and inclusion, mental health, and respect at work-the incumbent will cultivate a workplace that is safe, inclusive, and supportive. Where you'll work
At WorkSafeBC, we offer a hybrid work model that combines working remotely, and in our offices based on the operational needs of the position.

In this role, you will work primarily from our Richmond Office with some flexibility to work from your home in B.C.
  • Provide strategic leadership by participating in business planning, policy determination, and decision-making to align divisional goals with WorkSafeBC's corporate strategy.
  • Oversee legal, policy, review and audit operations and ensure compliance with the Workers' Compensation Act and other regulatory frameworks.
  • Lead and develop a high-performing, professional management team, providing direction, mentorship, and accountability to drive results and operational excellence.
  • Foster a culture of innovation and agility, encouraging the use of emerging technologies and forward-thinking approaches to enhance legal and policy services.
  • Maintain strong stakeholder relationships, engaging with government bodies, employer and worker representatives, and external legal entities to ensure alignment and transparency.
  • Act as a trusted advisor to the President & CEO and the Board of Directors, offering expert guidance and strategic policy insights.
  • Champion a positive and inclusive workplace culture, promoting collaboration, communication, and continuous improvement across teams.
  • Consistently models the appropriate level of organizational behaviours expected of all WorkSafeBC employees: responsive, respectful, fair, collaborative, accountable, and forward thinking.
  • Manage financial resources effectively, overseeing budgeting, forecasting, and resource allocation to ensure operational efficiency and fiscal responsibility.

  • The ability to make business decisions based on working knowledge of Policy, Legal, Review and Audit requirements.
  • The ability to analyze, evaluate and synthesize information quickly across multiple contexts.
  • The ability to align divergent stakeholder views and goals towards a shared outcome without direct reporting relationships.
Your background and experience
  • A university degree in public administration, business administration, or other related disciplines.
  • A minimum of fifteen years of related and varied experience in progressive leadership roles.
  • Must have demonstrated skills in planning, organizing and delivering services to multiple stakeholders, showing advanced political acumen and diplomacy skills.
  • Must have demonstrated strong leadership and delegation skills, allowing managers to manage once trained and developed while ensuring accountability for results.
  • Must have demonstrated verbal and written communication skills with well-developed public relations capabilities.
  • Knowledge and experience of administrative law and policy would be an asset.

Salary: $265,882 to $280,653/annually
