Job Summary

The Team

Join our Indigenous Relations Team in the South Coast Region, a dynamic group of approximately 15 individuals with a blend of new and seasoned professionals. This established team collaborates with various ministry units-such as the Vancouver Island and Lower Mainland Districts, Project Delivery, and Marine Branch-on impactful initiatives that foster meaningful relationships with the 93 Nations in the region. Driven by a spirit of reconciliation, the team's passion for working with First Nations communities creates a supportive and inspiring environment for all members.

The Role

As Executive Director, you will play a key leadership role in advancing reconciliation and fostering meaningful relationships with Indigenous communities across the region. You will oversee consent-based negotiations and collaborate with cross-agency leaders to align provincial processes, policies, and legal frameworks. This role involves leading high-profile negotiations, driving economic opportunities, and supporting cultural recognition initiatives while ensuring alignment with the Ministry's reconciliation goals. Your work will have a lasting impact, requiring strategic thinking, innovation, and a commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements

  • Bachelors or Master's degree and a minimum 5 years *related experience OR equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.
  • *Related Experience includes the following:
    • Experience in a senior management role in leading, coordinating, developing and implementing complex plans and programs.
    • Experience establishing collaborative relationships with internal and external partners to lead organization change associated with coordinate implementation and service delivery.
    • Experience working with First Nations communities and a working understanding of B.C.'s First Nations and their geographic locations.
    • Experience in strategic business planning; project management; contract management;financial management; and leading multi-agency/multi-jurisdictional teams.
    • Experience in leading multiple teams and working with diverse partners and stakeholders and subject matter experts to develop timely and effective strategies, plans, and programdevelopment.
    • Experience balancing conflicting interests and negotiating solutions.
    • Experience establishing and reconciling program and project objectives, priorities and budgets.

Preference may be given to candidates with:
  • Experience developing and executing engagement strategies.
